In Finland, OT cybersecurity has been sidelined for too long. Kimmo Saarni wanted to step in and bring the subject to the centre of attention.
“For a long time, the discussion has revolved around critical infrastructure, security of supply and cyber threats – while industrial environments, automation systems, and production networks have largely been overlooked. This imbalance needed to change.
Earlier in my career, I worked for a supplier in critical infrastructure OT projects, configurating, for example firewalls and other network components. The guiding principle was always to the same: availability must be guaranteed, no matter what. From there on, for me, the keyword in OT cybersecurity has been AVAILABILITY.
What ultimately sparked the OT Cyber Security Summit Finland was the realisation that Finland lacked a dedicated professional platform that would bring together OT cybersecurity experts, leaders, decision-makers, and technology providers.
We also need new movers and shakers in the OT cybersecurity business. My ambition is for the event to serve as a stepping stone for students and professionals seeking new career opportunities, and to give them a forum where they can build networks and form communities.
We wanted to build an event that targets the very core of OT cybersecurity through real-world case examples. The presentations provide insight into lessons learnt and practical real-life solutions.
This is where legacy begins. Through collaboration and community.”
